What Binaural Measurement Adds

A vehicle does not deliver the same response to the left and right ears. Speaker distance, aiming, glass, doors, seats, trim, reflections, and the listening position all affect what reaches each side. Binaural measurement gives SMS left- and right-channel information at the listening position so the system can be evaluated more realistically.

  • Identify tonal imbalance between the left and right sides.
  • Evaluate the width, center focus, and stability of the front stage.
  • Check crossover interaction between tweeters, midrange, midbass, and subwoofers.
  • Find peaks, dips, or overlap that may be caused by the vehicle or installation.
  • Verify whether time, level, polarity, phase, and equalization changes improved the result.

Measurement Does Not Replace System Design

DSP tuning cannot correct every physical or electrical problem. Before final tuning, the signal path, gain structure, speaker mounting, polarity, crossover safety, amplifier power, wiring, voltage support, and subwoofer enclosure must be correct.

  • A weak or leaking speaker mount still wastes output.
  • A clipped or heavily processed input signal limits the result.
  • Incorrect crossover points can damage speakers or create poor blending.
  • Weak grounds or voltage drop can create inconsistent performance.
  • An incorrectly designed subwoofer enclosure cannot be repaired with EQ.

  1. Verify the system. Confirm the source signal, integration path, channel routing, speaker layout, amplifier setup, and subwoofer system.
  2. Set protection and gain structure. Establish safe crossovers, output levels, and unclipped operating range.
  3. Check polarity, phase, and timing. Make sure adjacent speakers and the subwoofer work together instead of cancelling each other.
  4. Measure the listening position. Review left/right response and how the system behaves through the crossover regions.
  5. Apply controlled adjustments. Use level, delay, EQ, and phase changes only where they solve a measured or audible problem.
  6. Verify by measurement and listening. Confirm the final response, staging, tonal balance, output, and bass integration with several tracks.
