Before You Buy
Should I buy parts first or talk to SMS first?
If SMS is installing it, text us before checkout. The best result usually comes from matching products, labor, wiring, DSP, electrical support, and the vehicle together.
Can SMS help me choose products?
Yes, especially when the products are being purchased through SMS and installed by SMS. That lets us match the equipment to the vehicle and install plan.
Why not just buy from a marketplace?
Marketplace listings usually do not know your vehicle, factory audio package, wiring needs, signal path, enclosure space, or tuning goal. SMS combines product sales with local installation and tuning knowledge.
System Planning
How do I choose the right speakers?
Speaker choice depends on vehicle fitment, amplifier power, sound goal, mounting, and whether the system will stay passive or use DSP tuning.
Should I upgrade speakers or the amplifier first?
Many systems perform best when speakers, amplifier power, installation, and tuning are planned together.
What size subwoofer is best?
Subwoofer size depends on space, enclosure design, amplifier power, vehicle type, and the customer’s bass goal.
Installation
Do I need an appointment?
For installs, DSP tuning, fabrication, lighting, custom enclosures, and larger planning sessions, yes.
Does SMS install customer-supplied equipment?
SMS may choose whether to install customer-supplied equipment. Customer-supplied parts may require inspection and may not receive the same support or warranty path as products purchased through SMS.
What should I send before an install?
- Vehicle year, make, model, trim, and factory audio package.
- Current equipment and any products already purchased.
- Your goal: clarity, volume, bass, staging, lighting, reliability, or a full system.
- Photos of the dash, doors, trunk/cargo area, battery area, saddlebags, or current wiring when useful.
DSP and Tuning
What is a DSP?
A DSP gives control over EQ, crossovers, time alignment, output levels, routing, staging, imaging, and subwoofer blending.
Do I need a DSP?
You may need DSP if the system uses factory integration, premium speakers, multiple amplifiers, active channels, difficult speaker locations, or if you want better staging and control.
Amplifiers, Batteries, and Electrical
What is RMS power?
RMS power is the usable continuous power rating. SMS plans systems around real power, speaker load, impedance, wiring, fuse protection, and safe installation rather than peak/max claims.
Do I need a battery upgrade?
Battery support matters when the system demands more current than the vehicle can comfortably supply.
Custom Work, Jeep, Motorcycle, and Lighting
SMS works with custom subwoofer enclosures, Jeep audio, motorcycle audio, powersports audio, Slingshot audio, custom lighting, LED speaker rings, and fabrication work.
