DB Drive XPERT EXT1.5NH Mini NEO Horn Tweeters — Pair
Have plenty of midrange but the top end disappears once the system gets loud? That is the job for the EXT1.5NH. These are compact high-output horn tweeters built to add the high-frequency output a pro-audio, motorcycle, or powersports system needs without taking up the space of a larger horn-and-driver assembly.
The 106 dB sensitivity is the number that matters here. These do not need huge amplifier power to get loud, and the neodymium motor keeps the package compact. DB Drive uses a Poly/Mylar diaphragm with an aluminum die-cast waveguide designed for wide dispersion, so the goal is strong high-frequency coverage across the listening area instead of one narrow hot spot.
The crossover is not optional. DB Drive specifies a minimum 3 kHz high-pass crossover at a 12 dB/octave slope or steeper. Each tweeter is 8 ohms and rated for 85 watts power handling with 250 watts dynamic power, so we would choose the amplifier channel and wiring around that impedance instead of treating these like a typical 4-ohm car-audio tweeter.
What they will not do: these are dedicated high-frequency drivers. They are not full-range speakers and they should not be run without the proper high-pass crossover. If the system needs a tweeter that can play substantially lower than 3 kHz, this is not the driver we would choose.
Serviceability
DB Drive offers the EXT1.5NH RC replacement diaphragm/recone assembly for this model. That does not replace proper gain structure and crossover protection, but it does mean the diaphragm assembly is serviceable instead of treating the entire horn tweeter as disposable if the high-frequency element ever needs replacement.
