iDatalink Maestro RR2 Advanced Radio Replacement Interface
RR2 is the Maestro module we use when the vehicle or the feature set has moved beyond what the original RR application covers—not simply because RR2 is the newer box.
Like RR, it is built to replace the factory radio without throwing away the supported vehicle functions tied to it. Steering-wheel controls, vehicle information, parking data, climate functions and other factory features can remain part of the new-radio experience when the exact vehicle and aftermarket radio support them.
Where RR2 earns the step up is expanded application coverage and the newer programming platform. It adds Bluetooth-based programming from compatible iOS and Android devices and gives the installer three programmable outputs for supported accessory-control functions.
What the Customer Actually Gains
With a fully iDatalink-compatible radio, supported RR2 installations can bring Maestro's vehicle-information screens into the new receiver: gauges, vehicle info, parking assistance, climate controls and compatible radar-detector information where the application allows it. The customer gets the better aftermarket radio without making the rest of the dashboard feel disconnected from the vehicle.
Certain non-iDatalink-compatible radios can still use RR2 for basic retention functions, but the deeper Maestro screens and feature set depend on the actual radio/vehicle combination.
When RR2 Makes More Sense Than RR
If RR fully supports the vehicle and everything the installation needs, there is no reason to force RR2 into the job. RR2 is the correct choice when the application requires it, when its additional vehicle coverage is required or when the installation benefits from its supported programming/output features.
That distinction matters on newer and more complex vehicles. Factory-amplified audio, infotainment architecture and retained functions can change the required Maestro module even within the same model line.
Three Programmable Outputs Are a Real Installation Feature
RR2 provides three programmable outputs that can control compatible relay-driven aftermarket accessories through a supported iDatalink Serial Port radio. Depending on the vehicle, radio and programming, an output can be configured for functions such as latch, toggle, following a CAN-bus event or timed delay behavior.
Those outputs are not extra amplifier channels and they are not universal high-current accessory feeds. They are control outputs used to trigger properly designed accessory circuits. We decide whether they add value based on the actual build rather than selling RR2 as though every customer automatically needs them.
Dedicated Radar Integration
RR2 also includes a dedicated port for supported Escort radar-detector integration. With the right compatible radio, detector and vehicle application, that can bring supported detector information/control into the radio interface instead of treating the radar system as a completely separate add-on.
Programming Is Easier, With One Important Exception
RR2 supports Bluetooth flashing through the Weblink Maestro app on compatible iOS and Android devices, along with USB/Weblink programming. Bluetooth flashing is not supported for APX radio solutions, so APX installations still use the specified programming method.
Once programmed, RR2 connects through the correct vehicle-specific Maestro T-harness. The harness handles the physical vehicle wiring while RR2 translates the factory data for the aftermarket radio.
The Complete Install Still Has to Be Checked
Dash kits, camera or USB retention pieces, antenna adapters, chime speakers, factory-amplifier retention or bypass parts and other accessories can still be required. The exact year, model, trim, factory radio/audio package, harness and new radio must match before the parts list is built.

Where this fits in the build
