Where this fits in the build

This is a system-control or DSP component. The correct choice depends on the signal path, channel count, routing, retained features and the rest of the amplifier and speaker plan.

Description

PAC AP4-FD31 AmpPRO 4 Ford B&O A2B Amplifier Integration

Once Ford moved the B&O system onto A2B digital audio, the integration job changed. FD31 lets us remove the factory amplifier from that digital chain instead of adding better equipment after it.

AP4-FD31 extracts the audio from the supported A2B system and gives the aftermarket build both analog preamp outputs and optical TOSLINK. The factory radio and supported vehicle commands stay in place, but the B&O amplifier no longer has to be the part deciding how the new system is fed.

That is the big difference between FD31 and the older FD11/FD21 products. Those earlier interfaces integrate around different Ford amplified architectures. On a supported FD31 application, the factory amplifier is unplugged or removed and the new amplifier takes over the speaker channels through the supplied bypass/speaker connections.

Why A2B Makes the DSP Choice More Interesting

For a conventional amplifier build, FD31 provides front, rear and non-fading/subwoofer analog outputs up to 5V RMS. If the system is built around a DSP with optical input, the included TOSLINK path is usually the cleaner handoff because the digital extraction is already part of the interface. There is no reason to buy APA-TOS1 separately for this product.

From there, the system can be laid out around the actual speakers and tuning goals: active front stage, rear fill, subwoofer channels, dedicated amplification and proper DSP control. The factory B&O amp is no longer something the new system has to coexist with or correct after the fact.

FD31 vs. FD32

FD31 and FD32 both serve Ford B&O A2B applications, but the split is model- and year-specific. Do not choose between them using a blanket 2024-versus-2025 rule. The exact year, model and factory audio system have to match PAC's application data before ordering.

A B&O badge by itself is not enough. Confirm the exact vehicle against PAC's application list before treating FD31 as the correct interface.
