PAC APA-TOS1 TOSLINK Fiber-Optic Output for AmpPRO
If the DSP or amplifier already accepts optical, there is no reason to leave a compatible AmpPRO on analog RCA just because that is the connection everyone is used to seeing.
APA-TOS1 adds a variable TOSLINK fiber-optic output to supported PAC AmpPRO interfaces. The AmpPRO still handles the vehicle integration and volume behavior; APA-TOS1 changes the handoff to the downstream DSP or amplifier so the signal can travel over optical instead of an analog RCA run.
Where the Optical Path Makes Sense
In a DSP-based system, optical can simplify the signal path between the factory-integration interface and the processor. It also avoids the induced noise, ground interaction and electrical interference that can affect analog interconnects in a vehicle.
On PAC’s analog-based AP4 platforms, the AmpPRO converts the supported audio to digital and APA-TOS1 provides a 48 kHz / 24-bit TOSLINK output. That gives a compatible DSP a straightforward digital input without adding another external converter.
Do Not Buy It Twice
Some newer AmpPRO interfaces already come with the optical-output hardware as part of the package. Digital-bus products such as AP4-FD31, AP4-FD32, AP4-GM61, AP4-GM71 and AP4-GM81 include the APA-TOS1/TOSLINK path.
APA-TOS1 makes sense as a separate accessory when the selected compatible AmpPRO does not already include optical and the downstream equipment can actually use TOSLINK. If the amplifier or DSP only accepts analog RCA, there is no benefit in adding fiber just for the sake of having it.
The Cable Is Separate
The module installs into the supported AmpPRO interface and works with standard TOSLINK optical cables. The optical cable itself is not included, so cable length is chosen around the actual DSP/amplifier location rather than bundled arbitrarily with the interface.
