Mazda Miata 6.5-Inch Door Speaker Conversion

Adapt the early first-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata (1990–1997 U.S. models) factory speaker and grille mounting arrangement for compatible 6.5-inch aftermarket drivers. The design follows a 1996 Miata factory three-bolt speaker mounting arrangement for a 6.5-inch-class aftermarket speaker. Actual basket and bolt dimensions control compatibility.

Fitment limitations

The geometry is intended for the documented 1996 Miata mounting arrangement. Other first-generation model years and other 6.5-inch speakers require confirmation of the factory mounting points and speaker dimensions. Later-generation Miata fitment is not established.

Installation notes

  • Vehicle: 1996 Mazda Miata is the documented mounting application. Other first-generation years need a comparison of the original speaker/grille mounting points. Not advertised for later generations.
  • Driver: Compatible 6.5-inch nominal class after confirming the actual cutout, basket OD, depth, terminals and speaker mounting-hole circle.
  • Attachment: Adapter uses the eight factory speaker-grille positions as the mounting interface, rather than assuming the new four-hole speaker matches the stock three-bolt frame.
  • Hardware: The design calls for #8-32 × 5/8-inch screws and nuts, with pressed-in nuts at the mounting positions. Hardware is not included; verify fastener length and seating for the actual door.
  • Grille clearance: An aftermarket speaker grille may require additional modification or clearance. Do not assume an aftermarket grille fits automatically. Check original trim, window and door-card clearance.

Construction and package

Two black ASA 3D-printed adapters, same geometry unless side-specific differences are required by actual vehicle confirmation. CAD geometry uses one plate approximately 164 × 165 × 6.9 mm. Speakers, hardware, wiring and installation not included.
