Choose Stage 1 when the main goal is improving the immediate environment around the door speaker without treating the entire door. SMS concentrates the work directly behind the speaker and around the mounting area to reduce local panel resonance and wasted midbass energy.
This is the practical starting point for a straightforward speaker upgrade in a door that is otherwise reasonably controlled.
Starting labor: $50 per door. Material is separate. This rate assumes the door is already being accessed for related installation work; unusual disassembly or vehicle-specific access can add labor.
