Vault Power LI-HD41 — 41Ah LiFePO4 Harley-Davidson Battery

The LI-HD41 is the Vault Power battery to look at when a Harley needs more than basic starting capacity and the battery is also part of a real motorcycle-audio electrical system. Vault designed it around the factory Harley-Davidson battery location, uses top-mounted terminals and gives it 41Ah of LiFePO4 capacity with an onboard BMS.

The numbers are what separate it from a generic “lithium Harley battery.” Vault publishes 850 CCA for starting, 250A constant amperage draw, 500A burst amperage draw and a 135A maximum input that is BMS limited. That gives us a published starting figure, a sustained-current figure, a short-burst figure and a charging-input ceiling to design around.

For an audio bike, the 41Ah capacity is important because the battery may be supporting fairing amplifiers, saddlebag amplifiers, lighting and accessories at the same time. The battery can provide reserve when system demand rises above what the motorcycle charging system is delivering in that instant, but it still has to be recharged. A larger battery does not turn an undersized charging system into an adequate one.

The 135A maximum input is especially important. Vault limits input through the BMS, so we do not treat a larger charging source as automatically better. The bike’s charging system has to remain compatible with the LI-HD41 instead of being selected independently from it.

Vault’s onboard BMS also provides over-voltage and over-discharge protection. The manufacturer states that the battery disconnects internally if voltage falls below 10V or rises above 15V. Those are protection thresholds, not normal operating targets. If the BMS disconnects because one of those limits is crossed, Vault says the battery remains disconnected until outside voltage is applied. Once it is powered back on, the BMS and battery return to operation.

That reset behavior is useful to understand before installation. A battery that has entered protection can look completely dead at the motorcycle. The correct move is to find the over-voltage or over-discharge cause, correct it and recover the battery properly rather than assuming the pack has failed.

Physically, LI-HD41 measures 6.5 x 4.96 x 6.89 inches and weighs 8.6 pounds. Vault designed it around the factory Harley battery area with top-mounted terminals, but we still check the exact motorcycle, terminal orientation, cable routing and seat clearance before installation—especially on bikes that already have aftermarket audio wiring in the battery compartment.

Compared with the Element 11 NA-20 sodium battery, LI-HD41 is the Harley-focused LiFePO4 path with 41Ah capacity, 850 CCA and a BMS-limited 135A input. NA-20 is a 20Ah sodium-ion platform with different published charge/discharge and alternator limits. Neither should be chosen from chemistry alone; the bike, charging system, starting requirement and amplifier current demand decide which electrical architecture makes sense.
