Beyma PRO8BK/V2 8-Inch High-Power Midbass/Midrange

If a 6.5-inch high-output speaker still leaves the system thin through the lower mids, the answer is not always another subwoofer.

The Beyma PRO8BK/V2 is an 8-inch, 4-ohm ferrite driver designed to put real cone area into the upper-bass, midbass and lower-midrange part of a high-output system. Available published product data supports 250 watts AES power handling, 94 dB sensitivity, a 5.7 mm Xmax and a recommended 20-liter rear volume.

That puts it in a very different lane from the PRO8MI. The MI is the efficiency-first dedicated midrange. The PRO8BK/V2 is the broader, harder-working 8-inch when the system needs more low-end body from the speaker section itself.

This is where an 8-inch starts doing work a 6.5-inch simply cannot do as easily.

The PRO8BK/V2 uses an 8-inch cone platform with a 5.7 mm published Xmax. That excursion capability matters when the driver is expected to reproduce kick drum, upper bass and lower-midrange energy instead of living almost entirely in the vocal band.

The benefit is not “more bass because bigger speaker.” The benefit is that the 8-inch has more cone area and useful linear travel to move the air required in that part of the spectrum.

What that solves: the system can have real punch and body between the subwoofer and the vocal range instead of sounding like deep bass underneath a bunch of bright mids with nothing tying the two together.

Beyma designed this one around a controlled rear volume.

The published recommended enclosure volume is 20 liters, roughly 0.71 cu. ft.

That is a major clue about how the PRO8BK/V2 is supposed to be used. The rear of the speaker should not be treated like an undefined cavity when the goal is controlled midbass output.

In a custom door, pod or speaker enclosure, the chamber behind the cone becomes part of the system design. The volume, sealing and venting strategy affect how much useful lower-frequency output we actually get.

Published product descriptions point to bass and midbass applications in compact vented cabinets. If we are building a sealed or differently loaded mobile installation, we tune the enclosure and crossover around the actual application instead of assuming one box alignment fits everything.

250 watts AES / 500 watts program gives the lower-midrange section real headroom.

The PRO8BK/V2 is rated at 250 watts AES and 500 watts program power.

That makes sense for a driver carrying more lower-frequency energy. The further down a speaker is asked to play, the more cone travel and amplifier power the system tends to demand.

The driver uses a 38.1 mm / 1.5-inch voice coil. The practical point is not to feed it 500 watts just because that program number exists; the amplifier, enclosure and crossover still have to be matched to the driver’s real job.

94 dB sensitivity is the tradeoff for more low-frequency capability.

The PRO8BK/V2 is published at 94 dB sensitivity.

That is lower than the 98–101 dB numbers of Beyma’s dedicated MI midranges, and that is not an accident. A speaker optimized for more excursion and lower-frequency work is solving a different problem from a narrow-band ultra-efficient vocal driver.

If all we need is maximum vocals per watt, PRO8MI is the better tool. If we need an 8-inch driver to create actual midbass energy while still carrying clean lower mids, PRO8BK/V2 makes more sense.

PRO8BK/V2 versus PRO8MI.

PRO8MI: 98 dB sensitivity, 200 watts RMS, dedicated midrange architecture. Choose it when vocal projection and efficiency are the priority and another driver is handling the midbass below it.

PRO8BK/V2: 94 dB sensitivity, 250 watts AES, 5.7 mm Xmax and a 20-liter recommended rear volume. Choose it when the 8-inch needs to contribute real punch and lower-frequency body instead of only vocals.

They are both 8-inch Beyma drivers. They are not interchangeable just because the cutout looks similar.

80 Hz published response does not mean we throw the crossover away.

The PRO8BK/V2 is published from 80 Hz to 8 kHz.

That gives us useful bandwidth, but final crossover points still depend on the enclosure and required output. If the system is being pushed hard, asking the driver to spend unnecessary excursion at the bottom of its range wastes headroom.

In many builds we would use a subwoofer or larger low-frequency driver below it, high-pass the PRO8BK/V2 where it stays controlled, and let it own the midbass/lower-midrange region where an 8-inch can add real impact.

At the top end, a dedicated tweeter or smaller high-frequency driver lets us stop asking the 8-inch cone to reproduce everything simply because the published response extends upward.

The suspension is part of why this one can work lower.

Beyma specifies a treated double-roll cloth surround and describes the response as linear and low-distortion.

That suspension architecture gives the cone the controlled travel needed for the broader lower-frequency job. Combined with the 5.7 mm Xmax, the PRO8BK/V2 is built to move more than a dedicated vocal midrange without turning into a loose bass speaker.

Where we would use it.

This is a strong option for custom doors, motorcycle saddlebags or pods, Jeep and powersports enclosures, and speaker panels where the system needs an 8-inch driver to add real midbass instead of simply adding more midrange volume.

It becomes especially useful when the subwoofer is physically separated from the front or side speaker system. A strong 8-inch midbass can help bridge that acoustic gap so bass impact feels connected to the music instead of coming from somewhere else in the vehicle.

With DSP, we can choose the crossover around the enclosure, shape the response, manage phase and time-align the driver with the speakers above and below it.

The result: an 8-inch high-power driver with substantially more midbass authority and useful excursion than Beyma’s dedicated MI midranges, while still reaching high enough to integrate into a serious multi-way high-output system.

Published response is not a universal crossover recommendation. Final enclosure alignment, high-pass, low-pass, amplifier power and DSP settings must be chosen around the actual installation and required output.
